2025 Mandatory DHCR Annual Rent Registrations Are Now Due
As we approach the filing season, we want to remind you of the upcoming mandatory DHCR Annual Rent Registration filings for units subject to rent stabilization. It's crucial to stay ahead of these requirements to ensure compliance and avoid any potential penalties.
Filing Deadline
Registrations can be submitted starting April 1, 2025, and must be filed no later than July 31, 2025.
New Penalties for Non-Filing
It is essential to file your registration on time to avoid the newly imposed penalty of $500 per unregistered unit for each month the registration remains outstanding. If a timely registration is not filed and a notice of delinquency is issued, owners will be given a specific timeframe to complete their registrations.
Properties Applying for Tax Exemptions & Abatements
If you own a building applying for tax benefits in New York City under programs such as 421-a(16), 485-x, 467-m, and J-51, please ensure that Initial Registrations have been filed before completing your Annual Registrations.
Additionally, remember to mail a copy of the annual registration form to your tenants after submitting it to DHCR.
